Exhibition Made by fire

Made by Fire is an exhibition project of the Moravian Gallery in Brno in cooperation with the Prague international design festival Designblok, which presented contemporary Czech design of glass, porcelain and ceramics in the context of their long tradition and current topics. The exhibition brought together works by established Czech manufacturers, prominent design personalities and the emerging generation of authors and showed the diverse forms of creation that are created in Czech kilns and studios.

The title Made by Fire refers to the very process of creation of the exhibited works – glass, porcelain and ceramics are materials whose final form is fundamentally determined by fire and high temperature. The exhibition also opened up questions about the future of Czech production, sustainability, technological development, authorship and the boundaries between applied art and free creation.

The project was first presented in 2023 as part of Milano Design Week at the Triennale Milano in Milan, then moved to Prague, where it was part of the Designblok in the Prague Castle Ballroom, and then to Brno. At the Moravian Gallery Museum of Applied Arts, the exhibition was presented as an extensive presentation of Czech glass, porcelain and ceramics and also became part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the museum's founding.

In Milan and Prague, the Nalejto studio was represented by Lenka Záhorková with her original project Tak to bylo. In the Brno presentation, the selection was also expanded to include the work of the Nalejto studio – the Swallow vases.

For Nalejto, the project represented two different positions in working with porcelain: the author's project Tak to bylo, which works with discarded porcelain and personal memories, and the studio's design work represented by the Swallow collection.
